3 More Dog Photography Tips to Try

If you’ve been following along with a blog for awhile, you may have noticed a post back in January in which we shared a few dog photography tips for our readers to try. In that post, we took at look specifically at what to do when your dog just won’t cooperate and some of our tips included bribing your pup with treats (which is easy to do if you have a Woofie), choosing your background, and taking more photos than you think you’ll need.

In today’s post, we have a few more great tips for when you’re trying to take a cute dog pic. If you struggle with figuring out how to take a picture with your dog and get good results, we believe that these tips will help to make you an expert when it comes to puppy photography. And, of course, you and your pooch will have some fun in the process. Keep reading to learn more!

3 Dog Photography Tips to Keep in Mind

Consider the Mood

First and foremost, you’ll think about what type of mood you want to set. For example, if your dog is a little goofball, you might want to play that up. On the other hand, if he or she is more serene, take advantage of that! The truth is that no matter what type of pup you have, if you approach your photos with a specific vision, you’ll almost always end up with quality results even if it’s not exactly what you had in mind.

You can also look to the internet for some inspiration. We live in a day and age where you could spend hours upon hours scrolling through dog photos and still not see them all. Do a search on Google. Check out some hashtags on Instagram or Twitter. There are a number of resources available to you, so take full advantage of them and you’ll be able to find a great mood for your photo.

Make Your Pup Look His or Her Best

There are a handful of things you can do to help make your pooch look like a million bucks. For instance, does your dog enjoy baths? Toss him in the tub before your photo shoot. (If you can get him to sit still for long enough to take a bath, of course, because it’s always a huge ordeal, isn’t it?) Does your dog look handsome with a handkerchief tied around his neck? Is your pup looking her best right after she gets back from the groomer?

You know your dog better than anyone, so you know what looks best, and if you want to get a great picture, this is a wonderful place to start.

Experiment with Filters and Other Accessories

One incredibly easy way to get the most out of your photo shoot is to mix it up a bit with new accessories. If you already have a Woofie to help make life easier, consider purchasing a few camera accessories for your smartphone. There are a number of inexpensive options out there that can transform your photos and take them to the next level. eBay and Amazon are great sources for lens attachments, allowing you to get macro shots quickly and easily.

Alternatively, you can download different apps to provide your photos with unique looks. Instagram has plenty of features built in, of course, but be sure to check out other options such as VSCO, Snapseed, Mextures, or the Photoshop app.
